KEYS TO A HEALTHIER YOU SERIES
Many chronic diseases can be caused by key risk behaviors. You can reduce your likelihood of getting a chronic disease and improve your quality of life. For example, eating healthy and being active can help prevent, delay, and manage heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
The Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) Chronic Disease Prevention program has launched an online learning series called Keys to a Healthier You! This series will cover three topics, each 60-minute in length and designed for adult and senior populations. Each session will provide information on strategies to prevent chronic disease. You will learn about free programs offered by the FCBOH to help you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Healthy Eating: MyPlate 101
Everything you eat and drink matters. The right mix can help you be healthier now and in the future. MyPlate is the current nutrition guide developed by the USDA that uses a meal place setting to illustrate the proper distribution of the five food groups in a healthy diet. This fun and interactive session will provide participants with an overview of the health benefits associated with MyPlate and how this tool can support chronic disease prevention.
Active Living
Living an active lifestyle can improve your health and reduce your risk of developing several diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Regular physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life. This fun and interactive session will provide you with an overview of the benefits of physical activity and will provide practical tips on how you can incorporate physical activity into your daily life.
Quitting Smoking
Did you know that smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the world? Quitting smoking significantly reduces the risk of dying from tobacco-related diseases such as coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. This session will provide an overview of the risks and dangers associated with smoking and explore quit options available to smokers.
