ADOLESCENT HEALTH AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Fulton County's Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) Program strives to reduce the number of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections among youth living in Fulton County.

The AHYD uses the following strategies:
Community Health Education

  • Promotes and coordinates the implementation of evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention using trained facilitators certified by the Georgia Department of Public Health to implement Making Proud Choices, Making a Difference, and Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) curricula
  • Provides health education classes and workshops on various adolescent health and youth development issues using knowledgeable facilitators

Community Outreach

  • Partners with community agencies, faith-based organizations, schools, youth and neighborhoods groups and others
  • Provides community awareness and educational events on adolescent health-related issues
  • Links youth to clinical health services available through the Board of Health’s teen clinic located at the Oak Hill Child, Adolescent and Family Health Center.

Professional Development

  • Identifies and links organizations to “Train the Trainer” opportunities to expand the capacity of the public health workforce to provide evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention curricula in a variety of settings

If you are interested in becoming a trained facilitator; accessing our educational services or collaborating with the AHYD program, contact our Director of Health Promotion, Kristin Dixon at 404-612-1688 or email kristin.dixon@fultoncountyga.gov.
